Het Kwade Oog (The Evil Eye).

Het Kwade Oog was a film club, an initiative by a group of Antwerp-based filmmakers, artists and film enthusiasts who wanted to breathe new life into the dormant film scene.

Het Kwade Oog began with two screenings: a tribute evening organised by CLUB MORAL to the illustrious predecessor, Cinéclub ‘Het Linnen Venster’, and the pilot screening featuring ‘Het Kwade Oog’ and ‘Impatience’ by Charles DEKEUKELEIRE as its guiding principle.

Het Kwade Oog aimed to be a platform for young filmmakers, coupled with a revival of older, interesting films. A double bill, as it were, which could lead to idiosyncratic or sensational combinations.

In the beginning, the programme was primarily focused on Belgian productions, out of respect and appreciation for our own talent. We therefore build our programme around key films such as ‘Het Kwade Oog’, ‘Monsieur Hawarden’, ‘Meeuwen Sterven in de Haven’, ‘Si le Vent te Fait Peur’,... Cornerstones that are continually enriched with new productions: ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’ by Marc Ghens, ‘Same Player’ by Stef Viaene,...

Het Kwade Oog’s shows were initially held at the Archief voor Vlaams Cultuurleven, owing to its neutral character and attractive auditorium. However, several alternative venues were available, each of which was suitable for specific programmes.

Later, Het Kwade Oog came under the organisational umbrella of De Andere Film, both to broaden its reach and target audience, and out of ideological affinity and sympathy.

Cinéclub Het Kwade Oog was originally an initiative of Bert Beyens, Danny Devos, Frank Heirman, Eddy Nolf, Karel Simons, Dirk Paesmans, Luc Tuymans, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, Danny Van Looy and Greet Verlinden.
